During our recent visit to Mumbai, we had the pleasure of exploring the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS), formerly known as the Prince of Wales Museum. This iconic institution, established in the early 20th century to commemorate the visit of the Prince of Wales in 1905, stands as a testament to India’s rich cultural heritage.

The museum’s architecture is a stunning blend of Indo-Saracenic, Mughal, Maratha, and Jain styles, featuring a grand dome, intricate balconies, and ornate interiors. Surrounded by lush gardens, the building itself is a masterpiece.

Inside, CSMVS houses approximately 50,000 artifacts spanning art, archaeology, and natural history. We were particularly captivated by the Sculpture Gallery, which boasts an extensive collection of ancient Indian art, including remarkable sculptures from the western region.

The museum also offers an impressive array of miniature paintings, well-preserved antique sculptures, and exhibits that provide a comprehensive introduction to Indian culture.

Our visit to CSMVS was both enlightening and inspiring, offering a profound appreciation for India’s diverse artistic and historical legacy.
