Retirement – Health, Healing, and the Gift of the Liminal Moment

Today I feel better than I have in years. Stronger. Lighter. More alive.

I’m making the most of my liminal moment in retirement and so can you!

There are chapters in life that open not with a bang but with a biopsy.

Mine began with a diagnosis that stopped me cold. Cancer. A word that shakes foundations. Then came the surgery, the tests, the waiting, the wondering. But here’s the unexpected twist: in crossing that threshold—from the certainty of “before” to the uncertainty of “what now?”—I stepped into something far more powerful than fear. I stepped into transformation.

This wasn’t just a health scare. It was a liminal moment. A place between no longer and not yet. And in that liminal space—suspended between identities, outcomes, and expectations—I found something astonishing: clarity. Gratitude. Joy.

Today I feel better than I have in years. Stronger. Lighter. More alive. Healthier not just in body, but in mind and spirit. The cancer is gone. The prognosis is good. But the real gift? It’s the deeper healing that came with confronting mortality and choosing vitality.

I eat better. Move more. Sleep deeper. Laugh louder. I’m more present, more grounded, more in love with life than ever before. Not despite what happened, but because of it.

Liminal moments don’t come with roadmaps. But they do come with invitations—to slow down, wake up, and live well. I accepted that invitation. And now, every sunrise feels like a celebration.

And I’m taking on one of the biggest physical and mental challenges in my life next week – climbing Kilimanjaro! Stay tuned.
