I started training for my Hadrian’s Wall trek yesterday! Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro was the journey of a lifetime—both physically and spiritually. It marked my triumph over cancer, my retirement from the courtroom, and my deep desire to face life fully awake. But it wasn’t the end. It was a beginning.
That’s why I’m walking Hadrian’s Wall.
Stretching 84 miles across the northern frontier of Roman Britain, Hadrian’s Wall represents more than just an ancient boundary. For me, it’s a symbolic line between the known and the unknown—between the life I’ve lived and the life I continue to shape with every step forward.
If Kilimanjaro was a test of endurance and mental toughness, Hadrian’s Wall is a pilgrimage of reflection. I’m walking to honor the history beneath my feet, to feel the solitude of wild landscapes, and to connect past and present in a way that only walking can. I want time to think. Time to breathe. Time to listen to the land and to myself.
I’m walking because even after climbing the highest free-standing mountain in the world, the path of growth never ends. There are always new walls to cross—not to conquer, but to contemplate.
This walk is not about proving something. It’s about continuing something. And in the footsteps of Roman legions and long-forgotten travelers, I’ll keep moving—step by mindful step—toward whatever comes next.
And it gives me the opportunity to help others near and dear to my heart: young people. I’ve set up a gofundme for Counting Fingers and Toes, a charity founded by our daughter Rachel to help young people develop their math skills. Please contribute to this worthy cause; Debbie and I greatly appreciate anything you can give.
