Debbie Jamison Horres and I touched down in Casablanca early Thursday morning after an overnight flight from JFK on Royal Air Maroc—tired, but filled with anticipation for what lies ahead.
Without hesitation, we dove straight into the heart of Morocco, beginning at the awe-inspiring Hassan II Mosque. We’d been here before but saw only the grand exterior. We corrected that omission immediately.
Standing majestically over the Atlantic, it is more than a place of worship—it is a masterpiece. We explored both the grand mosque and its museum, soaking in the intricate craftsmanship, the spiritual energy, and the sheer scale of one of the largest mosques in the world. The Mosque can hold up to 80,000 worshippers at one time, inside and out. We learned that the roof can open to allow sun light to fill its vast interior.
From there, we enjoyed a delicious lunch at La Sqala, where the flavors of Morocco began to unfold—fresh, vibrant, and deeply rooted in tradition.
We then checked into the elegant Royal Mansour Casablanca, a refined retreat that instantly wrapped us in comfort and style. After a much-needed nap to recharge from the journey, we rose just in time to catch a breathtaking sunset at Le Roof Casablanca on the 23rd floor. As is our custom we celebrated with our favorite libation- gin and tonics of course!
As the sun dipped into the Atlantic, painting the sky in hues of gold and crimson, we dined on Mediterranean octopus—perfectly prepared and utterly memorable.
What a way to begin.
A day of movement, beauty, culture, and connection. A reminder that travel is not just about the destination—it’s about stepping fully into the moment the journey begins.
