Today was a journey in every sense of the word.
Debbie Jamison Horres and I departed Fes early, setting our sights on the vast and timeless Sahara Desert near Merzouga. It was a long drive of over 8 hours—but one that unfolded like a living documentary of Morocco’s diverse landscapes.
We passed through lush cedar forests, where the air felt cool and alive, and made our way through Ifrane—an alpine village so unexpected it felt like a slice of Switzerland dropped into North Africa. It was actually cold! From there, the terrain shifted again, revealing the stunning expanse of the Ziz Valley, its ribbon of green cutting through the earth like a lifeline. We paused for lunch at a traditional kasbah, a quiet moment to reflect on the beauty and contrasts of the day.
The miles were long, but never dull—each turn revealing a new face of Morocco.
By late afternoon, we arrived at the edge of the desert, where the road ended and the real adventure began. Transferred into the Sahara, we made our way to camp just in time for sunset. And then—magic.

We mounted our camels and began a slow, rhythmic trek into the dunes as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of gold and fire. Debbie, of course, was in her element—she loves camels—and her joy made the moment even more special.
There is something ancient and humbling about entering the desert this way. The silence. The scale. The sense that you are stepping into a world that has remained unchanged for millennia.
Please check out the video of our trek into the desert—it captures a moment words can only begin to describe.
Another unforgettable day on this magical journey.
Always choose love.
And peace.
Namaste.
