Olives, olives everywhere; A visit to the olive market in Casablanca

We have visited many markets and souks over the years, but I had never been to an olive market. If you love olives, or even if you like olives, you will be amazed at the olive market.

While I knew that Morocco was known for its spices, I had no idea it was also known for its production of olives. The country is one of the world’s largest producer of olives, with fields covering almost 400,000 acres throughout the country. Sadly, climate change has affected the production of olives due to the lack of rain and the high temperatures which have affected the flowering of the olive trees.

Back to the olive markets! The colors of the different kind of olives was surprising to me. I was so sad they were not offering samples because it sure was tempting! I will look at the olive bar at my local grocery store with new eyes and wonder if any came from Morocco!
