After two flights and 20 hours in the air, there it was outside my plane window as we approached —Kilimanjaro. Rising alone, majestic and silent, piercing through a sea of clouds. My heart skipped a beat as the plane banked just enough to reveal the snow-capped summit glowing in the early golden light. I’ve seen mountains before, including Everest, but this was different. This was a presence. A promise. A challenge. Because I’m going to climb it.
In that moment, everything became real – abstraction faded. After months of training, planning, and dreaming, the mountain was no longer an idea—it was a towering reality. Floating above the clouds, it felt both impossibly far and deeply familiar. The journey has begun.
