One Week from today I leave for London on my next adventure – Hadrian’s Wall. I will fly into London where I’ll spend the day exploring one of my favorite myseums – The British Museum. This visit I will focus on Roman Britain including the famous Vindolanda Tablets. These tablets, written in ink on thin sheets of wood, consist of accounts, private letters and military records.
From London, I will take a train to Carlisle on the west coast where I will visit the Tullie Museum which houses important collections and temporary exhibitions associated with Hadrian’s Wall.
The next day I will meet my guide and group to begin the seven day trek from sea to sea. I’ll walk the path of Hadrian’s Wall—73 miles across northern England.
Years ago, I couldn’t have imagined this. A cancer diagnosis. Retirement. The climb of Kilimanjaro. And now, a walk through time, through history, and into my own future. I carry the lessons of the mountain with me. I carry the lightness of a heart made stronger through trial. I walk not to escape life, but to fully live it. Because this is what it means to be just getting started. At any age. After any storm. Toward every horizon.
Let’s go.
