Concierge Tip of the Year to British Museum Admission

Yesterday upon arrival in London I realized that even after my meticulous planning I had neglected to secure a ticket to the British Museum! I checked the website and it was “sold out” until 6pm. Admission is free and the myseum is open until 8:30 pm on Fridays only. I decided to take that as a backup plan if I couldn’t get in that morning. The hotel concierge noticed my anxiety and quickly offered what turned out to be the tip of the yeat for me: “Use the back entrance,” he said. “Even if you don’t have a timed ticket, you will get in.” I was skeptical but I went early at 9:30am and after a five-minute walk from the hotel I was in a small but growing queue for the 10am opening. Voila! No ticket needed. In at opening! And I went back at 6pm after most of the crowd had thinned out. What a bonus.
