The Imminence of the Wall

My training completed, the countdown is no longer in weeks. It’s in days. I’m traveling back in time, 2,000 years to be precise, to the edge of the Roman Empire – Hadrian’s Wall.

In just a few sunrises, I’ll lace up my boots, shoulder my pack, and begin walking the length of Hadrian’s Wall. Seventy-three miles of stone and story, stretching coast to coast across Northern England—once the Roman Empire’s northern frontier, now my own.

This isn’t just a hike. It’s a pilgrimage.

A journey outward, yes—but more so inward. A walk through time, through history, through whatever this chapter of life has in store for me. After cancer, Kilimanjaro taught me about limits. Hadrian’s Wall will test my patience, my pace, and perhaps my purpose. This is my next frontier – a test of endurance, curiosity and spirit.

I’ll cross rolling hills, Roman forts, ancient paths, walking where legions which stood guard against the wild north, the very inspiration of The Wall in Game of Thrones. And I’ll be sharing every step – the landscapes, moments of wonder and reflections along the way.

I feel the weight of the past in every step I will take. But I also feel something else: lightness. Readiness. Gratitude.

The path is calling. And I’m ready to walk it. Join me and let’s see what I discover.
