Looking back on my Hadrian’s Wall Trek, one of the joys—beyond the history, the miles, and the adventure—was the incredible hospitality along the way. Each hotel and inn added its own charm to the journey.
I began in London at the Montague on the Gardens, a cozy and elegant start just steps from the British Museum. From there, the Halston in Carlisle gave me a stylish base at the western edge of the Wall. In Haltwhistle, the Manor House Inn offered classic comfort right in the heart of England, while the Beaumont Hotel in Hexham blended warmth with a touch of luxury.
Arriving in Newcastle felt like a celebration in itself, and the Dakota Hotel stood out as the very best—modern, sleek, and welcoming. My trek closed at the London Marriott Heathrow, the perfect overnight before my flight home.
The food was outstanding everywhere. Our last group dinner at the County Hotel was a wonderful finale, but two culinary highlights deserve special mention: the unforgettable oysters and sea-salt negroni at Riley’s Fish Shack on the coast, and the fabulous flavors of Dood on the Quayside in Newcastle. And of course, I’ll never forget our simple, soul-filling picnic lunches along the Wall—made all the more special by the views.
This trek wasn’t just about walking history—it was about savoring every experience along the way.
