The Changing Landscape of Travel: Go Now, Go Wisely

Travel today is no longer what it was even a decade ago. The world feels smaller, more connected—and yet, in many ways, more complicated and constrained than ever before.

Geopolitical tensions are rising across regions that were once easily accessible. Borders that felt open now come with warnings, restrictions, and uncertainty. Just recently, the British Foreign Office placed 52 countries on its “no travel” or “partial travel” advisory list. Fifty-two. That’s more than a quarter of the world’s nations.

Let that sink in.

And the list isn’t shrinking—it’s growing.

We’ve personally been to seven of those countries. Places filled with history, culture, beauty, and humanity. Places that, at one point, were open to exploration but are now, at least for the moment, out of reach.

Layer on top of that the accelerating effects of climate change—wildfires, floods, extreme heat, and disappearing natural wonders. Add overtourism, where iconic destinations are overwhelmed and, in some cases, pushing back against visitors. And of course, the rising costs—flights, accommodations, experiences—all making travel more expensive and, for many, less accessible.

So where does that leave us?

Not discouraged.

But awakened.

Travel today requires something deeper—intentionality.

It means doing your homework. Understanding not just where you’re going, but what’s happening there. It means being aware of risks, respectful of local conditions, and adaptable when plans change. It means traveling not just for the checklist, but for connection, learning, and growth.

And perhaps most importantly…

It means not waiting.

If there are places in your heart calling you—go.
If there are experiences you’ve been putting off—do them.
If there are cultures you want to immerse yourself in—immerse now.

Because the truth is simple and sobering:

The world is changing. And access is not guaranteed.

Travel has always been a privilege. Today, it is also an opportunity that may not always be there tomorrow.

So go with your eyes wide open.
Go with respect.
Go with purpose.

And go now—while you can.

Together, we go farther.
