My Morocco Journal Day 9– From the Sahara to Dades Valley

We woke up early in our desert camp outside Merzouga, drawn from sleep by the quiet promise of sunrise over the Sahara. I made my way to the dunes just in time to watch the first light spill across the sand—gold, then amber, then a brilliant glow that seemed to stretch into infinity. One of those moments that reminds you how vast and beautiful this world truly is.

Debbie Jamison Horres and I spent our final morning walking together across the soft dunes, the silence broken only by the wind shaping the sand. A peaceful, almost sacred farewell to the desert.

From there, we began our journey toward the Dades Valley, a drive filled with constant wonder. The first stop was a fossil factory that made sculptures from follislized ancient sea creatures millions of years old. I was tempted to purchase one but resisted the impulse

Along the way, we stopped at an ancient, remarkably preserved kasbah and museum—standing as a quiet guardian of Morocco’s deep and layered history.

The landscape shifted as we followed the Draa River and wound through the dramatic scenery of the Dades Valley. Each turn revealed something new—lush pockets of green, striking rock formations, and villages that seemed to grow organically from the earth itself.

By late afternoon, we arrived at the Eden Boutique Hotel—a place as unique as its name suggests. Tucked into the valley, it feels like a hidden sanctuary, blending natural beauty with thoughtful design. More on this special place to come as it deserves it’s own special post.

From the stillness of the Sahara to the vitality of the valleys, Morocco continues to unfold its magic.
