After exploring more than 70 countries, we’re often asked: What are your favorite cities in the world? It’s a nearly impossible question—like choosing your favorite child! We’ve come to believe that a city isn’t just a place—it’s a feeling, a rhythm, a reflection of time and humanity. The cities below have lingered in our hearts long after the passport stamps faded. Some are ancient, others cutting-edge, but each one offered something unforgettable. Over time, a dozen places have etched themselves into our hearts with their culture, energy, beauty, and depth. Here’s our list of 12 cities – so far – that keep calling us back, each for a unique reason

1. Varanasi, India
The spiritual epicenter of India, Varanasi is raw, sacred, and unforgettable. At dawn along the Ganges, we watched pilgrims bathe, candles float, and the soul of India awaken. Life and death coexist here with striking beauty.
2. Istanbul, Turkey
Istanbul is a living mosaic. It bridges continents and cultures, where the call to prayer floats over bustling bazaars and Ottoman palaces. Every corner tells a tale of empires, resilience, and wonder.
3. Singapore
A marvel of green urbanism, Singapore harmonizes future-forward architecture with traditional neighborhoods and world-class cuisine. Gardens by the Bay and a bowl of laksa: perfection.
4. Cape Town, South Africa

A city framed by nature’s grandeur—Table Mountain, wild oceans, and vineyard valleys. Cape Town’s beauty is undeniable, but so is its layered history and cultural complexity.
5. Charleston, South Carolina
Our beloved hometown—graced with oak-lined streets, Lowcountry flavors, and stories that stretch back centuries. The charm is real, but so is the evolving, complicated history we continue to explore and honor.
6. Udaipur, India
Romantic and reflective, Udaipur floats on lakes and shimmers with regal calm. It’s Rajasthan at its most poetic—where palace walls hold quiet elegance and the sunsets are unforgettable.
7. Oaxaca, Mexico
Color, craft, and cuisine. Oaxaca is an explosion of artistic spirit and deep indigenous roots. We were enchanted by its Day of the Dead celebrations and mezcal magic.
8. Cusco, Peru
Once the heart of the Inca Empire, Cusco feels sacred. From cobblestone streets to sacred valleys, it radiates history and Andean mysticism—and it’s the perfect launchpad for Machu Picchu.
9. Seville, Spain
This city dances. From flamenco tablaos to Gothic cathedrals and orange blossom-scented evenings, Seville oozes romance and joy. Every plaza and patio tells a story.
10. Quebec City, Canada
Old-world charm meets Canadian soul. With stone ramparts and cozy cafés, Quebec City brings a European feel to North America, especially magical under a blanket of snow.
11. Chiang Mai, Thailand
A sanctuary of temples, monks, and markets in northern Thailand. Chiang Mai invites slow travel and mindful moments, from lantern festivals to jungle adventures.
12. Luxor, Egypt
Luxor humbled us with its sheer history. The grandeur of Karnak Temple and the mysteries of the Valley of the Kings transported us to the age of pharaohs and gods.
Honorable Mention
Dubrovnik, Croatia
The Pearl of the Adriatic dazzles with medieval walls, blue seas, and timeless beauty. We loved getting lost in its stone streets and watching the sunset from the ramparts.
